Venice
Venice continues to be one of my favourite cities and offers many photographic opportunities with its historical buildings, many canals , churches, bridges and interesting people.
During a visit in 2011, we decided to explore some of the varied and distinct districts or sestieres of the City and to that end referred to the series of audio CD's "Walk Talk Venice" published by http://www.recordedbooks.com and followed, over several mornings, a number of the recommended walks, each starting from Piazza San Marco. Accordingly, we visited the Jewish Ghetto and other areas within the Cannaregio district, crossed the Rialto Bridge and followed the streets and canals within the San Polo district, visited several areas close to the City centre in the San Marco district and crossed the Academia Bridge to the Dorsoduro district and along the Zattere. Our final walk followed the Canale di San Marco through the Castello district to the Arsenale, a historical complex of former shipyards and armories.
We also visited the neighbouring island of Burano in the Venetian Logoon . Borano is a fishing community and is well known for its brightly painted colourful houses. The nearby islands of Torcello and Murano were also visited
