In May 2022, we visited Porto for a few days followed by a river cruise along the Douro with Ama Waterways from Porto to Salamanca and return.
In Porto we visited the colourful Ribeira district and viewed the impressive Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar in Vila Nova de Gaia above the Ponte Dom Luis over the Douro. There were many cultivated vineyards we viewed from the cruise along the Douro. The glazed Azulejos Tiles in the Sao Bento Station in Porto were impressive and these "small polished stones" which originated from an invasion by the Moors , can be seen in many churches and cathedrals. From Vega de Terron we made a side trip by bus to Salamanca in Spain. In Salamanca we visited several churches and viewed the Plaza Mayor and the Casa de las Conchas (House of Shells) before returning back on the Douro to Porto.
