Ta Prohm, Cambodia

Ta Prohm within Angkor Wat, Cambodia is a World Hertiage Site. These images result from two days exploring the abandoned temple ruins within Ta Prohm and adjacent temples at Banteay Kdei, Banteay Samre and Banteay Srie with the aid of a guide. It was initially founded as a Mahayana monastery and university. After the fall of the Khmer Empire in the17th century it was abandoned and neglected for centuries. In the early 21 st century efforts were begun to conserve and restore the temples at Ta Prohm but after some necessary stabilization it was decided that it would be left largely as it was found merged with the jungle. The ruined temples with their impressive architecture and overlaid art work held within the overgrown roots and limbs of silk cotton trees provide a great atmosphere and true photogenic experience
