On January 22, 1969, the West Vancouver Yacht Club circulated a bulletin: “In an effort to develop a major middle-distance yachting fixture in the Strait of Georgia for Category I and II boats, the West Vancouver Yacht Club is sponsoring the Southern Strait of Georgia Race on Easter weekend. This annual event has been held successfully since 1969.
